2012 Golden Globes are a vision in (Dermelect) Red!
Thank you for your support!
We’d like to give a great, big thanks to all of the media that covered the Dermelect Breast Cancer Awareness initiative in support of the Young Survival Coalition.
Young Survival Coalition (YSC) is the premier global organization dedicated to the critical issues unique to young women who are diagnosed with breast cancer. YSC offers resources, connections and outreach so women feel supported, empowered and hopeful. These are young women that are just starting to experience life- maybe straight out of college, starting their first job or getting ready to marry. This organization helps them during this very trying period to not only survive but also strive to get their lives back on track.

Lady Gaga Goes Au Naturale for ‘Harper’s Bazaar’!
Lady Gaga is, for a change, drawing attention for what she’s not wearing- makeup. Usually, the pop darling is fully decked out by Nars and MAC but on this months Bazaar she’s revealing her bare self.
“I don’t really view it as ‘natural,’” she says in the interview. “I think that artifice is the new reality. It’s more about just being honest and sincere to the core of what you do. Whether I’m wearing lots of makeup or no makeup, I’m always the same person inside.”
At Dermelect, we love it when women show their true beauty and go out, at least sometimes, with no makeup on! As long as you cleanse, exfoliate, moisturize and protect your skin correctly then showing off your natural glow is your just reward!
So do you dare to go bare? Let us know if you ever go out without makeup!

The Future of Skin Care? Botanical Stem Cells Explained!
Time magazine recently published “The Ten Ideas That Will Change The World- For The Better”. Coming in at #7 is how stem cells are changing the way we think about disease. Similar to how Apple changed the way we purchase and listen to music, the bio-medical community has initialized stem cell research as the go-to resource to repairing tissues that falter and boosting systems that fail. From relieving chronic chest pain to successfully restoring life to an injured pitcher’s throwing arm, the results are arguably incredible and amazing at the same time.
The development of cell lines that may produce almost every tissue of the human body is an unprecedented scientific breakthrough. It is not too unrealistic to say that this research has the potential to revolutionize the practice of medicine, and improve the quality of life.”
– Harold Varmus, Nobel Prize winner & former director, National Institutes of Health
It’s easy to get lost in the lexicon of beauty terminology but the one term that you will undoubtedly need to get more familiar with as we all strain to remain young and beautiful is stem cells. Here is a quick guide to the most anticipated scientific discovery that is changing the face of aging. The concept is relatively simple. The objective of adult human skin stem cells is to maintain, repair and replenish new skin tissue. Having a limited life span, aging and the assault of environmental free radicals affect the ability of human stem cells to continuously regenerate and renew fresh skin tissue on its own. As a direct result, the skin is left dehydrated and aging is accelerated eventually resulting in the formation of wrinkles and fine lines.
Stem cells in plants function similar to that of the human epidermal stem cell- to maintain and repair tissue. The implementation of botanical stem cells in anti-aging skincare is making a name for itself in slowing the proverbial ‘hands of time’. Defying the odds, the Swiss Alpine Rose is an anomaly that grows remarkably beautiful while being exposed to the most unfavorable of conditions: mile high altitude, extreme dryness, severe cold winters and summers with an intense sun/UV index. Having been coined ‘Nature’s SPF’, the key to the Alpine Rose’s unlikely longevity lays chiefly in its unusually resilient stem cells as not only does it survive but it actually flourishes to produce new flower.
Dermelect has formulated its newest treatments with extracted stem cells from nature’s mysterious wonder, the Swiss Alpine Rose. The three new treatments utilizing Alpine Rose stem cell technology:
- Resurface Stem Cell Reconstructing Serum – a skin-perfecting serum to boost your facial skin stem cell activity and stimulate skin’s protein production.
- Resilient Stem Cell Regenerating Treatment - an indulgently rich cream that provides a luxurious barrier to the damaging factors- environmental free radicals and natural aging – that work to break down the skin’s own stem cell production.
- Resurgent Stem Cell Firming Activator - a dual function complexion transforming formula. Acts as a finishing application to promote stem cell protection and a resurgence of youthful skin tissue while further preventing free radical damage.
Dermelect’s new innovations combine the functionality of the rose stem cells to enhance the human skin stem cells to not only protect the skin from environmental factors but to increase skins cellular turnover, soften wrinkles and restore elasticity to aging skin. The healing power of the rose has never been more evident as successful self-repair and regeneration of new skin tissue is closer now than ever before.
Nail Recovery System- it’s not complicated at all, really!
We’ve been asked (more than once) on how to use our Nail Recovery System. Sometimes things don’t seem as simple as they are and they need that extra clarification. But in this case, the Nail Recovery System is really an easy step-by-step regimen to go from damaged to naturally beautiful nails.
Here are the most common questions asked and our answers to them:
1. Is the Launchpad base coat to be used only once daily, or as the nail grows out?
2. When is the Makeover Ridge used?
3. How much/often should I use the High Maintenance top coat?
Thank you for your wonderful nail products. Over 20 yrs ago I had fake nails and I got the worst fungus which cost me $$ to get rid of. Since then my nails have been like rice paper (18 yrs) I have tried Barielle, etc. and NOTHING worked to strengthen them. I read about you in a magazine and thought, “Oh well I will try something new AGAIN”!! Needless to say, your product worked fantastically and I finally have nails and they are very strong. It is a miracle!!!! I am so happy to see a little white tip on my fingers like everyone else has.
By the way I also am planning to try some of your skin products soon. If they are as good as the nail products, I should be looking like I am 50 very soon?? I am 71, but a young 71!!!!!
- Arlene, Lemont, IL
Your first step is to determine which of the base coats, Launchpad Nail Strengthener or Makeover Ridge Filler, you will be using. What you will start off with will depend on whether you see ridges and/or discoloration in your nails or not. If the answer is yes, I would recommend starting off with 1-2 coats of the Makeover Ridge Filler to instantly camouflage any damage while treating the nails with peptides and moisture. You can then follow with either a second coat or color polish (if desired). Finally finish off with 1-2 coats of the High Maintenance Instant Nail Thickener.
If you do not have ridges in your nails and have thin, brittle nails, use the Launchpad Nail Strengthener as your base and then proceed as previously directed. All lacquers are applied traditionally.
As for how often to use these products, you should use your own discretion. If you find you use your hands a great deal either gardening, cooking, washing dishes, typing, etc., you may notice wear quicker than someone else. I would recommend applying the lacquers at least once a week and at most every few days. Remove excess polish with an acetone-free remover and then reapply.
As directed, the Rejuvenail Fortifying Nail & Cuticle cream should be applied 3-4 times daily and can go on bare nails or over polish.
Hope this helps- please feel free to contact us if you need any further clarification. Otherwise, enjoy the treatments and your ‘new’ nails!
Best,
Cheryl

Skin Brightening Challenge- the Best Ways to Fade Dark Spots.
Discoloration makes skin look significantly older- by 10-15 years according to some. Treatment depends on your preference of time, expense and commitment. Below are the most advanced technologies that you can use to address age spots and achieve an over-all even skin tone.
- Intense Pulsed Light: A doctor’s treatment that dissolves freckles and dark spots. You’ll feel quick hot pinpricks and start to see fading after the first treatment but it will take up to five to seven sessions to clear the skin. Cost: between $150 upwards to $600 per session.
- Fractional Erbium Lasers: The gold standard for treating large areas of pigmentation. One session may clear the skin. Note it is probable to feel mild burning and pain during the treatment. Redness and mild irritation will occur after the treatment. Your skin also may peel for a week after it. Cost: between $2,500 upwards to $6,000.
- Q-Switch Ruby Laser: A 5-10 minute laser zap produces a burning sensation (you actually smell it burn) leaving behind a scab over each spot. Usual healing time varies between 2-4 weeks. Cost: between $2,500 upwards to $6,000.
- Hydroquinone-free Topicals: Effective treatments that combine lighteners with exfoliators using ingredients such as Kojic Acid, Licorice Extract, Arbutin, L-Ascorbic Acid or Emblica. Such pigment treatments will fade spots within 1-2 months. Cost: between $38 upwards to $165.
